A Historic Aircraft Carrier

Unlike a modern building, the ship was constructed for military service and contains original structural features that may present significant accessibility limitations.

These features may include:

• Narrow passageways
• Raised thresholds
• Low overhead clearances
• Steep ladders and stairways
• Confined areas
• Uneven surfaces
• Limited turning space
• Areas that cannot be reached by wheelchair

As a result, not every portion of the Haunted Hornet attraction route can be made physically accessible.

Haunted Attraction Route

The Haunted Hornet walkthrough route is not wheelchair accessible.

The attraction travels through historic areas of the ship that include narrow passageways, raised thresholds, steep ladders, confined spaces, restricted turning areas, and evacuation routes that cannot safely accommodate wheelchairs.

For these reasons, wheelchairs cannot be accommodated on the walkthrough route.

This restriction is based on the physical configuration of the historic vessel and the safety and emergency-evacuation requirements of the attraction.

Guests who use wheelchairs are welcome in accessible areas of the USS Hornet and should contact us before purchasing Haunted Hornet tickets so we can explain the accessible areas and any alternative event experiences available.

Other Mobility Needs

Guests who use canes, walkers, crutches, braces, or other mobility aids should be aware that the Haunted Hornet route includes steep ladders, raised thresholds, narrow passageways, and other physically demanding areas.

Please contact us before purchasing tickets if you have questions about whether the route can safely accommodate a particular mobility aid.

We will consider accessibility needs and reasonable accommodations based on the specific circumstances and the physical and safety limitations of the historic vessel.

Accessible Areas

The USS Hornet’s main Hangar Deck provides substantially greater accessibility than many areas elsewhere aboard the ship.

Accessible event activities and alternative experiences may be available depending on the night’s operations.

Guests using wheelchairs, mobility devices, or requiring a step-free route are strongly encouraged to contact us before visiting so we can explain the specific options available for Haunted Hornet.

Sensory Considerations

Haunted Hornet is an intentionally intense experience and may include:

• Sudden loud sounds
• Darkness and extremely low visibility
• Flashing or strobe effects
• Fog or haze
• Sudden scares and jump scares
• Theatrical lighting
• Confined environments
• Unexpected sensory effects

Flashing Lights, Jump Scares and Medical Risk

Haunted Hornet is an intentionally intense haunted attraction. If sudden scares, flashing or changing lighting, loud noises, darkness, fog or haze, confined spaces, stress, or other environmental effects could cause a seizure, cardiac event, severe medical reaction, or other potentially life-threatening response, we strongly recommend that you do not enter the haunted house.

Because of the design of the attraction and the historic ship environment, these effects cannot always be removed, reduced, or controlled for an individual guest.

Our cast may do their best to accommodate a request when possible, but we cannot guarantee that a guest will not experience jump scares, sudden sounds, lighting effects, or other sensory elements during the attraction. Many scares occur from concealed positions, around corners, and in very dark areas, so an actor may begin a scare before they are able to see or identify a guest signal, glow necklace, or other indicator.

Guests who have questions about specific attraction conditions are encouraged to contact us before purchasing tickets. You do not need to disclose a diagnosis or other unnecessary medical information. We can provide additional information about the attraction so you can determine whether the experience is appropriate for you.

No-Scare Accommodations

Guests may wear a glow necklace or another visible indicator and may let our team know about a sensory accommodation request before entering the attraction. Our cast will make reasonable efforts to be mindful of the request when they are able to see and identify the guest.

However, Haunted Hornet cannot provide or guarantee a completely “no-scare” or “no-jump-scare” experience. Because scares may occur from concealed locations, around corners, and in extremely low-light conditions, an actor may initiate any scare before seeing the guest or their signal.

If experiencing an unexpected jump scare could create a serious medical risk, we strongly recommend that the guest not enter the haunted house.
